It’s a condition that has confounded medics since pop sensation Justin Bieber hit the music charts in 2009, but doctors have finally pinpointed the telltale signs of ‘Bieber Fever’.
And despite fears of a pandemic, the illness affects just a handful of female fans who have come into contact with the teenage heart-throb.
Doctors at Michigan’s Delany Medical Research Centre (DMRC) said they have isolated the symptoms and are urging women who meet the Canadian-born singer songwriter to exercise extreme caution in Bieber’s presence.
“It takes just 30 seconds for Bieber to infect someone,” warned DMRC senior chemist Dr Sally Anderson.
“And the condition is made all the more dangerous because people can be unaware they have it until weeks – or sometimes months – later.”
The illness presents with symptoms consistent with morning sickness and some female fans have reported an engorged abdomen.
In a few rare cases Bieber Fever can continue for almost ten months and results in the birth of a baby.
