Jeremy Clarkson’s so-called secret lover has been unmasked, writes Crispin Fisher.
The Top Gear presenter, who was accused of playing away with a member of the show’s production staff, was in fact engaging in a kiss-and-make-up session with former comedian Steve Coogan.
Coogan was smuggled into an Australian hotel dressed at The Stig, Clarkson said.
The father of three laughed off suggestions that he is the fat, white Tiger Woods following claims of infidelity in a tabloid newspaper.
Clarkson’s story has since been backed up by footage from the hotel’s CCTV system which has been posted on disappointingly pornless video sharing website Youtube.
The grainy images show Clarkson returning to his room at around 11pm and then 10 minutes later a lank-haired, stubbly person dressed as The Stig arrives. At around 4am a woman is then seen leaving Clarkson’s £500-a-night suite wearing a hotel bathrobe.
Clarkson denied claims that the individual leaving his room in the early hours of the morning was a female, pointing out the similarity of room-mate James May to a woman in a certain light and after a few glasses of wine when seen from behind.
One former colleague of Clarkson, motoring journalist Andrew Vardy said he doubted Clarkson’s excuse.
He said: “I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a bird that was dressed up like The Stig for a tabloid-style five-times-a-night sex romp.
“Jeremy always said he found women in leather a real turn on as they have that ‘new car smell’.”
