The Stone Roses will resurrect their career by stepping into the matching brogues of Westlife to headline a CBeebies concert tour.
John Squire, Mani, Ian Brown and Reni will reunite to perform some of Westlife’s greatest hits as a gentle reintroduction to live performing after 15 years apart.
The band, who once sang I Wanna Be Adored, will play to crowds in the hundreds when they embark on a 30-date tour taking in primary schools and church halls across the UK.
Westlife called time on their career citing the pressure of topping a bill which includes star names such as CBeebies favourite Bob The Builder as a factor in their decision to quit.
The stool-mounted foursome will go their separate ways, but made sure their slot on the CBeebies tour was filled before announcing their plans.
“It was time to let the younger generation, the likes of The Tweenies, take over and push things to the next level,” a spokesman for the band said.
Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown has given up smoking as part of a plan to revive the band.
There had been fears he would sound like a moaning, tuneless Manc if he didn’t alter his lifestyle.
