Despite repeated promises that he would not douse his dad in water from a garden hose while helping clean the family car, primary school pupil Nathan Wilcox did just that.

Eye-witnesses reported that father-of-two Brent Wilcox, 39, succumbed to the repeated requests from his son to operate the hand-held water spraying device while cleaning the family Nissan in the driveway, only to end up soaked to the skin.

Neighbour Mitchell Thomson, 45, witnessed the events unfold.

He said: “After constant pleas from Nathan, Mr Wilcox handed the garden hose to his son to help rinse the car. Before he did so, however, he gave strict instructions that the hose be aimed at the car, and the car only.

“I distinctly heard Mr Wilcox warn the boy that if he pointed the spray of water anywhere else he would ‘never, ever’ be allowed to use it again.

“Though the boy said ‘okay dad,’ I got an uneasy feeling that things weren’t going to end well.”

Mr Wilcox was seen to guide his son through the process of rinsing the car before leaving the seven-year-old to concentrate on one side of the vehicle while he got to work scrubbing the grime off the wheel hubs.

Mr Thompson said: “After about a minute, the boy looked at his dad crouched down by the wheel. He looked at the gushing stream of water, then at his dad, and then back to the fast flowing jet of water. He then let our a squeal and squirted the water at his dad, hitting him flush in the face.”

As The News Grind went to press, Mr Wilcox was demanding Nathan put the “bloody hose” down while simultaneously trying to beat away another face-full of water with his flailing arms.
