BBC journalists have been stunned into silence after they were banned from describing former fat politician Cyril Smith as ‘larger than life’.
BBC bosses made the ruling after the phrase was used 95 times in the first hour after his death was announced.
As a result three broadcasts on News 24 ground to a halt as reporters outside Sir Cyril’s favourite pie shop in Rochdale clammed up in desperation.
One was left staring into the camera stammering ‘He really was a … a very …. nice, large, well sort of large, some would say, not me obviously but fat bloke…back to the studio.”
A senior manager told The News Grind: “Yes he was bloody massive but to be actually larger than life is impossible. Even Eammon Holmes isn’t that big…yet.”
