A former cabinet minister has rocked Westminster by revealing he enjoyed Gordon Brown’s company and had a good working relationship with the former Prime Minister.
The ex-minister, who does not wish to be named for fear of recriminations from constituents, served in Gordon Brown’s cabinet for three years and ‘enjoyed every minute’.
“Gordon is a nice bloke when you get past the Gaddafi-esque paranoia, furious rants, back-stabbing and systematic bullying,” he said.
“I remember one time when he was so angry he began to beat my chest wildly in frustration. I let him drum at me for a few moments then gradually slowed his arms with a firm grip.
“He kept going for no more than 20 seconds before collapsing into my arms sobbing. We just held each other and cried.”
Brown threw objects around the office in tantrums that would put a toddler to shame, but there was a lighter side to his outbursts.
The ex-minister told The News Grind: “I remember one time when Gordon had discovered David Miliband and Alistair Darling were plotting to overthrow him.
“He went ballistic, grabbing everything he could and sending it flying. He cleared his desk and emptied the drawers.
“Without looking he pulled out a giant vibrator that was given to Tony Blair by Bill Clinton and launched it across the room. It hit the wall and leapt into life buzzing away on the floor. We were creased up laughing.”
The former cabinet minister is also godfather to Brown’s son John, but asked to be airbrushed from any photographs.
