Urine Gone – also good for when people pee themselves
Animal lovers will be expected to mop up dog pee and mutt drool as the Government continues to put the squeeze on pet owners.
As well as poop scooping canine faeces, from Thursday, the mopping up of pooch urine and other bodily excretions made by animals will become the responsibility of the owners.
Under the Dog (Fouling of Land) Act 1996, pet owners can be fined as much as £1,000 for failing to clean up after their dogs, last night the act was extended to cover drool, barfs and dog farts.
Chancellor George Osborne denied the hurried rewriting of the Dog Act was yet another stealth tax designed to fleece the public and swell Treasury coffers.
“We are doing this as a health precaution,” he said. “It’s a natural extension of the current legislation.
“Do you really want your children skipping through dog urine and saliva in our public parks while inhaling lungfuls of dog fart? No, didn’t think so.”
Pet owners will now be expected not only to carry plastic bags and poop scoops but doggy pee bottles, sponges and specially designed wind bags to capture animal gases.
Hastings Borough Council has backed the tough new laws and has called on the Government to go further.
A council spokesman said: “Fining people isn’t enough to get the message home. Our dog wardens should be free to rub the offending dog dirt in the face of the owners. Or at least make them clean it up with their tongues.”
Government is looking at disposable full body doggy bags which hermetically seal the animal, and prevent any bodily fluids and gases escaping. They are set to retail at £4.99 for a pack of five.
“Alternatively,” added Mr Osborne, “You can do us all a favour and make like Mary Bale and dump the pet straight in the bin.”
