Nick Clegg listening to Who You Are on repeat

Concern is growing for the wellbeing of Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, following several days of behaviour described by colleagues as ‘worrying’, writes Hard Jackson.

Clegg has not been seen for some days and is believed to have locked himself in his House of Commons office. Clegg has been heard playing the Christina Aguilera song Beautiful on repeat and spent an entire day listening to the Jessie J album Who You Are.

Clegg was reportedly heard singing along to the title track – and later Commons cleaners reported hearing a strained voice whimpering the song’s key lyrics, which include the couplets “tears don’t mean you’re losing, everybody’s bruising/ just be true to who you are”.

Clegg was heard in an interview with Radio 4′s Today programme humming Lady Gaga’s Born This Way song.

In a move away from the focus of the interview – the UK’s withdrawal from the Lisbon treaty – Clegg made a number of bizarre comments concerning self-harming, personal esteem and body image.

“I just think it’s important to be true to yourself and don’t let anyone put you down,” said Clegg in a halting voice when asked for his opinion on the prospect of a two-speed Europe and the possibility of a debt default by Italy.
