Business Secretary Vince Cable was said to be self-harming during the delivery of George Osborne’s first budget for the coalition government., writes Hard Jackson.
Cable, who made a name for himself attacking socially divisive economic policies, was seen cutting his arm with a razor blade 28 minutes into the 55 minutes Osborne was on his feet.
The Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills was seen leaving the House of Commons with a dribble of blood coming from his bottom lip and more claret leaking from his palms, gouged by fingernails during Osborne’s announcement of a cut in child benefit.
And when the Chancellor announced a cap on housing benefit and medical means testing, Cable was seen headbutting his own fist.
An anguished squeal also came from the direction of the former Liberal Democrat deputy leader as Osborne announced a rise in VAT.
As he left the chamber, Cable was seen slamming a door, kicking a briefcase and throwing himself onto a sofa and sobbing.
Loud music, thought to be My Chemical Romance, was later heard emanating from Cable’s Commons office.
