Following in the footsteps of David and Samantha Cameron, Welsh Minister Dafydd Coal Williams has announced that his newborn child will be named Iwan Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch Williams, writes Hard Jackson.
The child, weighing in at seven pounds and three ounces, was born three weeks prematurely while the Minister and his wife, Llanfairfach, were holidaying in the Anglesey village.
The name translates literally as ‘St Mary’s Church in a hollow of white hazel near the swirling whirlpool of the church of St Tysilio with a red cave’.
When asked if the move was not simply a cynical attempt to curry favour with local voters, Williams – born in Hereford – replied in the negative.
“I would never presume as to patronise the wonderful people of Anglesey in this beautiful part of Wales, something my other children Megan Torchwood Llanddewi-Brefi Williams and Sian Bassey Bangor Electric Mountain Williams can attest to.
The Minister then departed for a day trip to Llangollen with his new family and dog, Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci.
