David Starkey: ‘I’m not racist – some of my best slaves are black’

Enoch Powell admirer David Starkey has laughed off claims he is a racist, out-of-touch twat.

The Cambridge-educated historian says he did not mean to cause offence with comments that rioters were mimicking black people.

“I’ll have you know some of my best slaves are black,” he said.

“And if I wasn’t giving them antiquities to polish they’d be out on the streets shooting homies on the run from the 5-0, one would expect.

“They born into the game, you feel me bro. You don’t never ex-scape the game,” he added, affecting the patois of street gangs as an attempt to soften his tarnished image.

Starkey insinuated that black people were pre-disposed to a specific nihilistic form of violence and criminality in comments he made on the BBC’s Newsnight saying “white chavs have become black.”

But already strange right wing humans – and Telegraph columnists – are lurching to his defence, despite the Monarchy presenter’s reference to race-hate stirring cretin Enoch Powell.

The incident is a worrying development for Starkey who is at risk of being viewed as an enormous racist twat.

Viewers who saw him on Jamie Oliver show Jamie’s Dream School just had Starkey down for a common or garden twat.

  1. The BBC allowed a racist historian to air his bigoted and narrow minded views within a public forum (this coming on the back of the Darcus Howe “you are a rioter” fiasco). I am a Black British woman who has studied Law at a top 5 UK institution, yet, Starkey referred to Black culture in totality as having a nefarious impact on white society. Well I cannot recall going out to loot my corner shop after finishing my final exams.
Black culture is disparate. There is no such uniform entity. He is suggesting that Nigerian, Jamaican, Antigua, Trinidadian, Cuban, Barbadian, Trinidadian, Zimbabwean culture is the same as we are all black. For goodness sake we do not even eat the same food let along share the same cultural traditions. His suggestion is also that since we are all black, we are all prone to rioting, crime activites, speaking patois and subverting impressionable white youth. Ridiculous and offensive to the extreme. Black culture was not responsible for the riots, it was a subculture unique to dispossessed urban youths that was responsible for the riots.
He has cast a shadow over the entire black community and contributed to the racism which is now being levelled against my community particularly online. He stoke the fires and his comments were like an incediary device and I personally know of many black people who are presently scared for their safety. I am black as I stated earlier and no one that I know speaks patois or listens to gangster rap. This is a fallacy and a dangerous one. He has sterotyped an entire community and contributed to the belief that black people are no good and good for nothing.
    Thank you David Starkey!

Oh and yes I and many other submitted complaints to Ofcom as well for all the good that will do!

  2. Truth hurts, don’t it?

  3. “The truth hurts…”

No truth in that Powell appologist or dudesters comment. It seems like we will end up going the American route of ignoring more white collar crime, whilst simultaneousely jailing a larger proportion of our poor population.

Seems like the rioters were after the same as the bankers: Something for nothing, and I guess all of us who aspire to more than that anarchy will end up bailing them out too.

    Sad.
