The low salt and fat content of children’s books given away by fast food restaurant McDonald’s are officially the healthiest option in the Happy Meal range, a report has revealed.
Eating just one chapter of War Horse author Michael Morpurgo’s Pigs Might Fly, given away free with Happy Meals, provides more fibre than a standard McDonald’s cheeseburger and regular fries, the findings published in The Lancet revealed today.
“And what’s more,” said Birmingham University Professor Jay Hawkins, co-author of the report, “tests carried out among consumers in 14 city fast food outlets showed a small children’s paperback tastes better than the average McDonald’s hash brown.”
As The News Grind went to press, it was revealed that due to customer demand, the free books issued with Happy Meals in Scotland would be coated in batter and deep fried.
