Police are investigating claims that a 20-year-old man posed as a Premier League footballer.
Nile Ranger was photographed on Sunday dressed up as a Newcastle United player for a league match against former champions Chelsea.
An investigation is under way into how the self-styled ‘striker’ managed to get onto the pitch at Stamford Bridge and remain on the field of play for 14 minutes plus stoppage time.
Ranger was heard to boast in the build up to the match that he ‘had his shooting boots on’.
Fortunately Ranger did not pull the trigger, and is yet to hit the target for the Magpies in the league.
The former Southampton player has been in trouble for this kind of behaviour before. He even managed to make it onto the pitch dressed as an under 19 England player, making 12 appearances and scoring 6 goals before being discovered.
Reports that Newcastle United full-back Jose Enrique was seen moments after the game in a Liverpool shirt are said to be wide of the mark.
