Stoke City supporters have been awarded a top honour… by themselves.

Fans of The Potters voted by a majority of three to one in an online poll which asked them to select the finest fans in football.

They were asked ‘Who are the bestest fans in the whole wide world? Stoke City or Port Vale?’ on an unofficial supporters’ site.

Almost three quarters said Stoke City, while 26% voted for Port Vale.

The high number of votes cast for their city rivals is thought to be a result of illiteracy levels way above the national average.

The Britannia Stadium is famed for its matchday atmosphere. The 29,000-capacity arena is reportedly one of the noisest grounds in the game, primarily because it’s full of people angry at having to live in Stoke.

Supporters were given space to add their own reason for rating Stoke fans the best in football.

The most popular response was ‘blank’ with 34%, but second with 31% was ‘great sense of humour’.

  1. We get it, you don’t like Stoke.

  2. Wow. How satirical. You must be very proud.

  3. Your mum must be so proud of you.

Who would have thought that spotty little oik would have grown up into a spineless keyboard warrior who takes anonymous pot shots at people from the safety of his own bedroom?

  4. You need to be on the stage.

You know? The one with a hangmans noose above it.
