Ryder cup captain Colin Montgomerie has left locals furious after buying a top Welsh golf course so his team can practise in peace.

The Mrs Doubtfire lookalike has purchased the 12-hole crazy golf site on Barry Island in a top secret move to let his pampered professional get used to the Welsh air before they battle against their American counterparts.

Stunned day-trippers dropped their candyfloss when they saw that the gates of the prestigious half-acre course were locked and a huge EU flag was flying over the admissions hut.

One of Montgomerie’s closest aides told The News Grind: “This has been regarded as one of Wales’ best courses for years. Putting against the windmill and the funny hole that is shaped like a u can only improve our chances.

“We have even got one of the local kids, who got a hole in one the other day, to give the lads some advice.

“Apparently he is telling them to get some Rockport boots and fake Lacoste trackie bottoms to fit in with the Welsh fans.”
