Stoke star Jermaine Pennant has been cautioned by police after chrome-wrapping his pet dogs, it was revealed today.
Passers by alerted police after spotting the stricken animals early yesterday whimpering in the front drive of the player’s £6million Potteries home.
The 28-year-old Premier League player’s obsession with chroming his property has become a cause for concern for Stoke boss Tony Pulis.
Already this season he has chromed his £160,000 Aston Martin DBS sports car, golf clubs, garden gate, mobile phone and his entire shoe collection.
Pulis said: “The modern game is getting used to the players, who enjoy high wages, indulging in gratuitous shows of their wealth, but when it affects his performances on the pitch then we must take action.
“These off the field actions are a worry and I will speak to Jermaine as soon as he is off the treatment table.”
Pennant is currently undergoing treatment on a bruised toe, after kicking a football he had specially chrome-plated.
Stoke physio Ian Jenkins said: “Jermaine kicked the metal-encased ball and damaged the big toe on his right foot. The toe would almost certainly have been broken if Jermaine hadn’t already chrome- plated his toenails earlier in the day.”
